For the past six months or so Ive been taking into consideration the idea of possibly going back to work, and for the past two weeks I have been brushing up on my professional skills, given the fact that the only top executive position I have obtained in the last six (6) years has been being my own boss to my three children, that is.
Anyway, in my periodical perusal I came across some fascinating and essential guidelines, rules, and must-haves when going through whole job interview process, so fascinating in fact its nearly biblical.
Did you know that your future employer could almost care less about the physical statistics and achievements you have attained in your past?
When the interviewer asks you what assets you would bring to the company, they would rather hear about your own personal characteristics and strengths, such as:
How honest and loyal you are.
The Bible tells us:
Acts 6:3 The honest are recommended for positions of responsibility
Leviticus 19:11 An honest person does not lie
Leviticus 6:2 An honest person doesnt slander
Proverbs 7:2 An honest man is not lazy
Possess a strong work ethic & moral.
The Bible tells us:
2 Peter 1:5 For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge
Ephesians 5:1 Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children
Passionate about your work.
The Bible tells us:
Mark 12:30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength
Self-motivated/take initiative.
The Bible tells us:
Proverbs 12:24 & 27 Diligent hands will rule, but laziness ends in slave labour. The lazy man does not roast his game, but the diligent man prizes his possessions.
You see, Ive had the interview process running through my mind night and day, even in prayer, so for a moment, I imagined that God were my future employer. I thought to myself, What would be Gods first question for me and how in his name would I answer him if I were applying to get into Heaven? God starts with, So, why dont you tell me a little bit about yourself? I begin by telling God about all the wonderful things that I have done, how well I raised my family, all about the honors, achievements, and awards I have attained over the years. Eager in anticipation of God reaction, or most importantly his approval, I proceed to be that brownnoser of the company by telling God about all the wonderful things that he has done for his people and for me personally. Although God loves nothing more than for us to sing his praises, (i.e.:
Sing praises to God, sing praises; sing praises to our King, sing praises. - Psalm 47:6
When the time comes for the ultimate interview the True Christian Life vs. Sunday-morning Only Christian Life will be the two proverbial factors that determine whether our eternity will reign in Heaven or Hell. Which side will weigh in heavier; that of the flesh or that of spirit?
If you want to stand out above the rest of the other candidates after the interview is over you should always:
Standard advice states to send Thanks to the employer for their time and consideration.
The Bible has over 850 verses that tell us why we could give God Thanks, but here are a few:
1 Thessalonians 5:18 give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.
Psalm 136:2 Give thanks to the God of gods. His love endures forever.
Keep pursing the employer until a selection has been made, dont wait on them to call you.
The Bible tells:
The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. Psalms 145:18
I dont know about you, but obtaining this job will look great on my resumé!
